That is why Harry's curse fizzled when he used it on Bellatrix. The Cruciatus curse is about wanting to torture someone out of their skull. If you want to hurt someone just punch them in the face. The Cruciatus curse is fueled by your sadistic glee in causing pain. Basically, it wasn't so much that Harry was "turning into Voldemort" as much as it was the shard of Voldemort's soul leaking into Harry. Harry didn't want to actually torture Bellatrix out of her skull, like Nevilles parents were, he was just angry and bereft over losing Sirius, his "fuel" for the curse was grief, not sadism or hatred, and he didn't take pleasure with it.Īnd the thing with Harry feeling closer to Voldemort that was later revealed to be because he was Voldemorts horcrux, that is why he started to feel closer to voldemort the more voldemort was regaining power. Painful to be sure, but not like it would be if say Voldemort used it. His Cruciatus didnt cause much more than a grunt and a yelp from Bellatrix. Otherwise the curse will fizzle, as it did with harry. Cruciatus curse requires you to take sadistic pleasure in the pain, it needs to be cast for it's own sake, with malicious intent, not hindered by some righteous goal like avenging Sirius. The thing is, his anger and hatred was too weak.
